As a lover of all things vintage, I’m always drawn to the timeless beauty and opulence of historical styles. So, when the idea of a Marie Antoinette-inspired photoshoot came to mind, I knew it was the perfect opportunity to combine my passion for photography with my admiration for vintage aesthetics.
The Vision:
The goal for this shoot was to create a look that echoed the elegance and sophistication of Queen Marie Antoinette, but with a simplified approach to keep things manageable and accessible. Vintage-inspired shoots can quickly become costly and elaborate, so we opted for a refined, minimalist take that still exuded charm and grace.
The Team:
Every successful photoshoot begins with a talented team, and this one was no exception. Our beautiful model, Sarah, brought the vision to life effortlessly. A skilled hairdresser, she styled her own hair into a regal updo reminiscent of the 18th-century aesthetic. Her sister, Amber Jerry of Smudge Makeup, complemented the look with stunning makeup that highlighted Sarah’s natural beauty while staying true to the vintage theme.
The Tools:
For this shoot, I used my trusty Nikon D850, paired with an 85mm lens for portrait close-ups and the 24-70mm lens for wider, more dynamic compositions. These tools allowed me to capture every intricate detail—from Sarah’s flawless hair and makeup to the delicate textures of the vintage-inspired wardrobe and props.
The Execution:
We chose a neutral backdrop to let the subject shine and to keep the focus on the artistry of the styling. Soft, natural lighting added to the simplicity and elegance of the overall vibe, giving the photos a timeless quality that felt true to the era.
The Result:
The final images perfectly encapsulate the balance we aimed to achieve: a nod to the grandeur of Marie Antoinette without the overwhelming extravagance. Sarah’s poised expressions, coupled with Amber’s makeup artistry and our thoughtful use of minimal props, brought the concept to life beautifully.
Why Vintage Inspires Me:
There’s something magical about stepping back in time through photography. Vintage shoots allow us to channel the elegance and artistry of a bygone era while adding our unique modern twist. This shoot reminded me of the beauty in simplicity and the power of collaboration.
Whether you’re a vintage enthusiast like me or simply appreciate timeless beauty, I hope these photos inspire you to embrace a touch of historical elegance in your own creative projects. After all, sometimes less truly is more.
